Winery Reviews

I wrote another post specifically about winery reviews IN Temecula.  You can read about those here.  (NEW WINDOW)  I have also reviewed wineries in Hawaii which can be viewed here.  (NEW WINDOW)  This post is about other wineries I have been to around California and Mexico.

Wine!

Orfila Vineyards was a Groupon find and well worth the trip.  We actually hit this place up during the summer after a day at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park since it is located across the street.  The grounds are nice and the tasting room is large.  The staff is a mix of amazing and mediocre.  Hope for an amazing server.  You can purchase munchies at somewhat reasonable prices to pair with your tasting.  The wine is delicious.

We didn't get to the San Pasqual Winery but did have the opportunity to hit up their cute tasting room at Seaport Village in San Diego.  The tasting is reasonably priced and the staff is friendly.  The wine is the real winner here.  Specifically, their line of specialty passion fruit wines which doesn't sound like a good combo but it works.  Well.

The Wine Tailor is located in the heart of Old Rancho Cucamonga.  It's a very cute venue with yummy wine but the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by the crowd.  I also have trouble with their food prices and if I am buying hummus to eat while enjoying wine, I absolutely should not be paying extra for the crackers.  If you're in the area, grab a flight, but skip the pricey bites.

While technically not a winery and certainly not a place you'd think of for wine, they do offer tastings at Parrish Pioneer Ranch in Oak Glen.  The proprietor travels and locates fine wines to sell in store.  They offer $1 tastings and they are super friendly.  It is a must stop any time you head to Oak Glen.

While in Oak Glen, travel to Snow-Line Orchards and Winery.  This is some of the best wine I have ever had.  This place is super crowded on the weekends because of the wine and fresh apple donuts.  They do flights and by the glass pours. Really generous by the glass pours.  Grab a dozen small donuts and a glass of the peach chardonnay and go sit on the massive grounds.

L.A. Cetto is a regular stop for Cruise Line Excursions and it's a great tour and some great wine.  They have a good time down there with the cruise ship crowd.  If you are thinking of doing an excursion, make sure this winery is on the list!

La Casa de Dona Lupe is another cruise ship excursion stop and the wine is great.  The food and specialty products are even better.  This is your grandma's winery.  It's fun and amazing.  Have a flat bread with your tasting and then sample hot sauces and specialty liquors.  If you're as lucky as I was, you'll meet Dona Lupe, herself.
