Justice League Review

I know I know, this movie came out last year but it was just released digitally and that means I finally watched it.  Spoilers ahead for Justice League.

Justice League
So, if you have wanted to see Justice League, you probably have by now but in case you have not, I say again, SPOILERS AHEAD!  Oh and there will likely be spoilers for all DCEU films.

Justice League has been in the news basically since it was announced.  Most of it has been...less than flattering press.

Many of you probably read many of the stories and formulated your own opinions or just regurgitated the opinions of angry fanboys everywhere.

Either way, you should calm down for a hot minute.

I am a Marvel guy at heart.  The X-Men are my homies.

The MCU is arguably the greatest series of films in the history of time.

That being said, I also love Superman and Batman and the "Death of Superman" story arc is part of my childhood.

The DCEU began in 2013 with Man of Steel and includes Batman V. Superman: The Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League.  It also includes upcoming films like Aquaman and Shazam!

I have seen all of the released films and for some reason Justice League is the first I am reviewing on here.  The public generally likes to complain about the DCEU with Wonder Woman being the exception.  (Only insecure boys complain about that one.)

I think the public is crazy.  Are the films of the DCEU exactly like the MCU films?  No.

Should they be?  Hell no!

Zack Snyder decided to go dark with the DCEU and it set a tone very very different from the MCU slate.  Everyone seemed to hate that choice.  I liked it.  Zack Snyder also crafted a longer film and that set the precedent for DCEU movies.  I love long movies that keep me entertained.  The public did not.

Now, angry fanboys everywhere yelled when Superman killed Zod because "Superman would never blah blah blah."

They complained again when "Martha, Martha, Martha".

The whined when Jared Leto wasn't Heath Ledger.

It goes on and on and on.

This time?  It's that Justice League isn't dark enough or that the film is too short or Superman isn't bad enough back from death or that we don't get Darkseid or that Joss Whedon ruined Zack Snyder's film.

You can't please all of the people all of the time but you absolutely cannot please fanboys EVER.

Let me tell you something.

I have enjoyed every DCEU film.  I have enjoyed every MCU film.  They are great movies.

Now, with Justice League, in case you're unaware, Zack Snyder was fired or voluntarily left to deal with family tragedy depending on which headline is trending this week. This happened after much of the film was completed.  Joss Whedon was hired to finish out the film.

Zack and Joss are both fantastic film makers but they have very different eyes.

It's alleged that Joss completely changed the tone and story of Zack's Justice League.  People are upset about this, but why?  You don't know anything but the final product.  That's like being upset you didn't win the lottery that you didn't know you could buy a ticket for.

I digress.

The film went through millions of dollars worth of reshoots once Joss took over.  These included adding some scenes with Superman.  If you have been under a rock, Henry Cavill was filming another movie at the time and had a mustache.  Superman doesn't have a mustache.  The two studios couldn't play nice and some poor sap was tasked with CGIing out his mustache to hilarious results.

Seriously terrible results.

It is what it is and we all need to move on.

Outside of Stachegate2017, the film has a couple of flaws.

I think it was a mistake not to introduce Darkseid.  Now, I am a fan of comics and know who that is but for the casual Superman/Batman/DC fan, you probably won't notice that the character isn't in the film.

I also think there was a missed opportunity in not using black costume Superman.  I won't go into details too much but it would have brought great closure to the "Death of Superman" story arc created in Batman V. Superman.

That's really it though.  Outside of those things, it's a decent popcorn flick that continues the larger universe and develops some great characters while introducing Aquaman, Cyborg, and a very hilarious Flash.

The casual fan won't even care about two of the three issues I mentioned above.

If people want a movie made a specific way, they should start a production company and self finance and self distribute whatever they want.  Otherwise, they should sit down, shut up, and enjoy some quality entertainment.

Justice League is worth your 2 hours.  It's got some really fun moments, some badass visuals, and a good story.
