My Birthday

It's March 27th.  I am now, officially, 38 years old.  I've been working in theatre for 20+ years and weddings for 8.  I have been with my wife for 9.  I have a 16 year old and a 12 year old.  I am balding.  I have a gut.  I am going through manopause.  I have a blog.  So why am I writing?

Because.  I am told that as you get older, you don't really celebrate your birthday anymore.  That birthday celebrations are for kids.

I disagree.  Every year you celebrate a birthday is another year you beat death.  It's another year you made it through and in today's world, that's pretty freaking rad!

Sure, 40 is looming, but who cares?  I am 38 today and I made it this far!  I am going to celebrate the day.

I am going to celebrate my kids.

I am going to celebrate my wife.

I am going to celebrate my career.

I am going to celebrate my parents.

I am going to celebrate my clients.

I am going to celebrate my family and friends.

I am going to celebrate my company.

I am going to drink beer or wine or bourbon.

I am going to eat steak or tacos or salad.

I am going to smell the air and feel the sun.

I am going to love life because I am living life.

Happy birthday to me!  Way to make it 38 years!

If you stop cherishing the accomplishments, you have no reason to celebrate.  And if you're not celebrating something, what's the point?
