Santa Clarita Diet Review

As I mentioned in my Travelers review, (NEW WINDOW) I find myself a little underwhelmed by the content Netflix churns out and I want to point out that that is not necessarily due to a lack of quality. It's probably more due to an abundance of product on their part and a lack of time and energy on mine.
Blood Sucking Good!

Here's, yet another, notable exception. Santa Clarita Diet is a refreshing take on the zombie genre.  It is both a comedy and a horror show.  Drew Barrymore ascends to new levels of quirk as Sheila Hammond, a realtor turned zombie living in suburbia and coming to terms with her new life after death.

She is joined by realtor husband, Joel, played by the always amazing Timothy Olyphant, and teenage daughter, Abby, played by relative newcomer, Liv Hewson.  The chemistry between these 3 is top shelf!  All 3 characters have to work the mother's new thirst for flesh into their everyday life.  Additional obstacles come in the form of police neighbors played by fantastic series regulars like Richard T. Jones and Ricardo Chavira AND guest stars Nathan Fillion, Patton Oswalt, and Portia de Rossi.

You can churn through the 1st season in 5 hours and be warned, there are some pretty gross shots, especially in the 1st episode.  Don't be eating while watching.

I was a little disappointed that Netflix would leave the series on such a cliffhanger, but I assume they plan on renewing it.  You won't want to miss this well written and perfectly cast show.
