As you might know, I used to be a travel agent. More importantly, I am a self-proclaimed Hawaii expert. This post is about must do dining on Oahu. Remember, I don't ever tell you about things I have not done and I never make money off these recommendations. If you have questions, leave me a comment!

The Original Dole Whip |
Sure, you can get a Dole Whip at Disneyland or even in your freezer section, but it's nothing compared to the one they serve at the
Dole Plantation in the center of Oahu. Grab one and enjoy it while you walk the
world's largest maze.
|
Kakaako Kitchen |
If you are sticking around Honolulu/Waikiki, grab a meal in a little mall at a place called
Kakaako Kitchen. You'll find quick service and great, Hawaiian grinds for little cash. Grab the Mix I for under $12 and share it!
|
Liliha Bakery |
While in town, grab the world famous coco puffs from
Liliha Bakery. Depending on the time of day, this place can be crowded and because of their fame, you might feel a bit overwhelmed. Don't! They are super friendly! Just remember, these are good for a reason. They sell up to 7200 A DAY!
|
I Heart Country Cafe |
My in town breakfast recommendation is for the
I Heart Country Cafe. They have 3 locations, but I recommend the one inside the
Navy Exchange near
Pearl Harbor. You don't have to be in the Navy to eat here. You WILL, however, find yourself thanking many many many servicemen and women while you're there. The food is classic comfort food and it's delicious. Get the two egg plate with potatoes and spam for under $9!
|
North Shore Tacos |
On the East coast, you'll want to check out
North Shore Tacos. Don't be fooled, they're technically not on the north shore. They are delicious and cheap. We grab our food to go and then head to one of the hundreds of tables lining the east coast beaches. The sweet pork quesadilla is under $10 and rocks!
|
Keneke's |
Also along the east coast is
Keneke's. It's a strange place. Like really strange. But the plate lunch is ono and under $10. You could easily share a meal.
|
Galley Grindz |
Heading up to the North Shore and it's land of the shrimp trucks. Seriously, there are a few dozen. One of our favorite trucks is located across the street from Shark's Cove. It's called Galley Grindz at it's a slightly pricier food truck option but you get what you pay for. They don't have a website or an online presence of any kind. You'll just have to find them.
|
Waimea Valley |
If you don't feel like a food truck and you happen to be hanging out in
Waimea Valley, I recommend refueling at their cafe. It is pricier than the food trucks, but if you paid to get in anyway, money probably isn't that big of a deal. The shrimp basket above is $18.
|
Fumis |
Back to the cost effective North Shore Shrimp Trucks, the best of the best is
Fumi's. They have a wide variety of platters and they are packed with flavor. Under $12 a person and you will be full. This is fresh and authentic!
Remember, there is a lot more to do on the island. If you want me to plan the perfect itinerary for you,
drop me an email. A small fee will apply.
