Top Episodes: How I Met Your Mother

I am a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother. Sure, it's Friends at a later date, but it's unique in the way it told the story. I know a lot of you were disappointed with the ending but really, it was the only way it could have ever ended. There are very few moments in the series I don't enjoy, but here's my list of must see TV...

One of the few good shows on CBS

Season 1, episode 1: The Pilot

I rarely include pilot episodes in must see lists but this is an exception.  The introduction of the famous blue french horn gives it a spot here.

Season 1, Episode 13: Drumroll, Please

If it wasn't going to be Robin, it absolutely should have been Victoria.

Season 2, Episode 4: Ted Mosby, Architect

Dear Resident, hahahahaha.

Season 2, Episode 9: Slap Bet

A story arc is introduced that carries through the final episodes.

Season 2, Episode 21: Something Borrowed

As a wedding planner, I've seen a lot, but the "real" wedding makes me cry every time.

Season 3, Episode 12: No Tomorrow

The Yellow Umbrella.

Season 4, Episode 9: The Naked Man

It works 2 out of 3 times.

Season 4, Episode 13: Three Days of Snow

Traditions are not meant to be broken and yes, the band gets me every time.

Season 4, Episode 19: Murtaugh

The list hits home in my late thirties but the episode makes it hilarious.

Season 5, Episode 8: The Playbook

The importance of the Playbook in future episodes is only as powerful because of this episode.

Season 6, Episode 13: Bad News

I cry every time I watch this one.  Even though I know what's going to happen, I cry.  There's a neat countdown in the episode too. It's one of my favorite episodes in the entire series.

Season 6, Episode 14: Last Words

It goes with the previous episode and continues to tear me apart.

Season 7, Episode 12: Symphony of Illumination

The story ends tragically, if not predictably.  Either way, it's soul crushing.

Season 8, Episode 11/12: The Final Page

If she wasn't going to end up with Ted, Barney was a good choice.  The lead up to the proposal and the proposal itself are spectacular.

Season 8, Episode 20: The Time Travelers

This is a comedic episode hiding some serious feelings and it plays out beautifully.  The musical ending is especially grand.

Season 9, Episode 23/24: Last Forever

I love the entire final season.  I love the build up to the news about the mother.  I love the mother.  In one season, the actress, cast, and crew created a character I loved.  I enjoy the entire season leading up to this episode.  The whole season could easily make this list, but the finale, in particular, gives us the closure we need after 9 seasons of great story telling.
